WHEN - A poem

WHEN? When are we going to talk about the poverty ravaging in the land? When the three-square meals have become a thing of the past, When the meagre incomes are spent even before the time passes the half mark, When the majority have turned to beggars,  When industries are packing up  everyday,  When hunger registers more death rate compared to accident When rags and tattered clothes become the official uniform of the populace, When homelessness can't let us differentiate between the masses and the electric poles - they both sleep out I ask, When? When will we get to iron out the ritual and serial killings? When people are slaughtered every day like fowls, Many are massacred for gullible and delusional reasons, When the loud sounds of wailings and sorrows deafen the few remaining, When the blood of innocents flow in the land like natural resources, When our people are displaced and rendered homeless almost every hour, When beautiful you...

LOST GEM - A Poem

Image
Like the sun in the morning, He came into the world a champ, His arrival brought joy and laughter to everybody's faces, Everyone welcomed him with prayers and high expectations, He was a blister of hope Oh! Dear boy, He grew and developed into loving and caring hands, He was the pride of the clan, A deposit of praises and adoration, He was welcomed like rainfall after a long drought Oh Dear boy! He soiled every record in school, Teachers were marvelled, Friends were wowed, A good example at church, Oh Dear boy, He got stuck in the strong net of peer pressure, Dreams and aspirations were washed down the drains, Grades were dropping like Naira to Dollar, The once good boy went worse Oh Dear boy, He had a U-turn in his life, Drugs and fraud became his best friends, Codeine and Tramadol became his food, "It is the money of my forefathers" he says, He was the royal 'Highness' He got his joy from other...

MY CRAVINGS- A poem

Image
Adunni, sing for me like eye Àwòko sings to the farmer, For I'll dance ijo èsò to your charming voice, While I plough and till the soils of your fertile land, And we'll get bountiful harvests of twins, triplets, quadruplets and quintuplets. Orekelewa, play with me like the cat plays with its olówó, For I will always enjoy giving you a pat on your forehead, And you will not grow up to be wild and leave me for the jungle, And I'll always give you my sweet milk Eleyinju ege, stick with me like the pigeon always stick to its owner, For I'll always enjoy laying my head on your bank of juice, Because our love is ife eleyele Eyinmenugun, speak to me like the parrot speak to its owner, They may say that the bird's speech is meaningless, But your words are like the sounds of the Agídìgbo, Only the wise can dance to it Adumaadan, adorn me like the peacock adorns the compound, For I'll take you to down to Oluyole, my fatherland and show my ...

A Letter To Mr Death

Old Mr Death, I have a complaint against your nefarious deeds. Yes, I know you are inevitable But I hate the fact that you are inconsiderate You are a foe of all races, Putting fear in the face of humanity. How dare you? You took our loved ones and left us in pain You turned a sweet home sour You set our lives in jeopardy. How could you ruthlessly pull the child's life like a tooth? Their happiness you mercilessly devour, this I yearn the sooth. Your cruelty knows no measure Don't you have a heart or it is made of stone?  You leave every house you visit in mourning You wickedly snatch the only child of a widow Leaving the walls and sands wailing Her being and joy leaped out the window. You gladly feed on the good, leaving the wicked to rot You took the young lad with dreams, how unthoughtful of you He was on the track to achieving greatness Until you came and snatched him away Here I wonder what his offense was. You are like the air in all nations A...

THE FEAR OF FEAR

Image
Image credit :  FES THE FEAR OF FEAR. This feeling is unpleasant and can make you impuisant Fear is instinctive, learned and taught It dictates the action you take It is more an enemy than an ally, so I thought The tiny innocent insect skim by, I screamed in holy fright, Fear send my subconscious mind on a journey, It kept me locked up in the cage of insecurity. I enjoy that part of my day, When I lay in my bed, ready to slip into dreamland. How sad all the scenarios I had conjured in my mind, Words I have left unsaid. If only I had the courage to speak. But I was afraid, I was scared to say. I am afraid of being heartbroken I am in trepidation of being rejected People will vibrate if it end up in divorce Or what if I become widowed? Oh no that I can't conjure This is the reason I remain single. For the fear of failure, I deprived myself the pleasure of success. I look into the dark ahead, I gave up even before I began Because I am afraid o...

DEPRESSION - A poem

Image
If I turn around and walk out of life, Will anyone notice I am gone? I find it hard to measure my worth on a scale The world doesn't even care. Sitting on the bridge of depression Ready to jump into death My heart pumping pain My face as white as snow This is a life I didn't ask for. I feel hollow deep within I feel life has rejected me My folded tears fight to be free You  stared into my eyes for long How blind you are, you didn't see my smile was shallow I jab and cut into my skin Wishing that could bring eminence I lay buried deep in dejection In pain  I call for death Death refuse me, it refuse to be an ally When I stare into the mirror I saw a frightened weak self I called the attention of some pills Wishing the bottle could take them away for ever But every time I rise from sleep I find yourself in dysphoria Please help I screamed But the world appear silent to my cry. I am alone, no one cares I wish to be shown love, Hopping to...

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMON, MAKE LEMONADE

Image
A lot of things happen in life, yes! The blind can see that, the deaf can hear it, the dumb are saying it again and again, it is crystal clear, thus, we conclude that life does not give us want we want or deserve, life seems or it is not fair to everyone. We strive for greatness, then something goes so wrong that we find it difficult to take a step further. Hence, the "when life gives you lemon, make lemonade". It is a fact that lemon is sour and lemonade is sweet. Making lemon  into lemonade means turning an unpleasant situation into a pleasant one. It is easier said than done but it is true that from a bitter situation, we can get a deeper sweetness, every well-managed condition is a blessing. Negative things will happen, it's inevitable, but out of virtually every bad situation we can constructively find  a way out. The following 8 points may help in doing that: [1] LOOK FOR THE LESSON When you are in an unpleasant situation, look carefully into it, there is...
